NEVADA COUNTY, CA – 79-Year-Old Woman Killed by Fallen Tree on Highway 49
NEVADA COUNTY, CA (April 11, 2022) – A 79-year-old was killed when a tree fell onto the car she was riding in on Highway 49 Monday afternoon.
Around 1 p.m., just south of Young American Mine Road on Highway 49, a tree fell onto four vehicles, killing the front passenger of a 2019 Nissan Rogue. She has only been identified as a 79-year-old woman. She suffered fatal head injuries.
The tree also landed on a 2010 Honda Accord, a 2005 Honda Accord and a 2013 Ford Escape. The driver of the 2005 Honda, identified as Carla Viera, was transported to the hospital with major injuries.
It is unknown if anyone else sustained any injuries. The fatal crash is still being investigated.
